Killing Ducks For the Table
There
are a few ways to prepare ducks for the dinner table. First up
we are going through how to get the domestic duck done. So what
do we need for this exercise? A tomahawk, hot water, detergent,
a knife and a place to prepare the ducks. To start off we need
some victims (ducks) so here at Men's Domain we have bred
ourselves some Drakes for this.
First
things first, we need to corner and catch the drakes, cut there
heads off (I know some of you out there might be a bit wussy
about this but harden up).
Next
step wet the duck with cold water thoroughly then emerge the
duck in boiling water with a bit of detergent for 2-3
minutes.You will need a bit if planning to do a few or you could
dry pluck the ducks.
Now
be careful here. Once you start plucking the ducks, the feathers
will be very hot. You will know if you have had the ducks
emerged for long enough because the feathers will just fall out.
You
should be able to get all the feathers off the wings so all you
will need to do is chop off the legs.
So
now we need to gut the duck, so first thing we do here is cut
its ring off (have a look in picture for better detail).
Now
make an incision across the ducks abdomen.
Once
this is done, you will need to pull the guts out. Not hard to do
just get your fingers up there and pull everything out.
Nearly
finished! Now give the ducks a good wash inside and out and we
are all done.
Either
you can bag them for the deep freeze or cook them straight away.
