Sipsmith London Dry Gin
Sipsmith's
London Dry Gin is distilled from the finest English Barley spirit
with 10 carefully selected botanicals, and blended with the
exceptionally pure water of Lydwell spring, one of the sources of
the River Thames. The result is an interpretation of the classic
London Dry style that nods to its heritage and emerges as a
particularly dry gin with a wonderful burst of juniper and a zesty,
citrus freshness.
History
Sipsmith was established in London in 2009; it is
the first copper-pot based distillery to start up in London in 189
years. The Beefeater Distillery was the last to launch before
this in 1820 and is the only distillery from the 1800s that remains
in London, based in Kennington.Sipsmith was launched by Sam
Galsworthy and Fairfax Hall, respectively former Fuller’s and
Diageo employees. Jared Brown is Sipsmith’s master distiller. He
is a historian of drink and director of Exposition Universelle des
Vins et Spiritueux. In the past he developed spirits in Sweden,
Norway, Vietnam, and in the US.
The Sipsmith distillery is based on a residential
street in West London on the site of a former
microbrewery, later the offices of beer hunter
Michael Jackson. Their still was made by the
German still manufacturers Christian Carl. The
copper pot still has a capacity of 300 litres
(66 imp gal; 79 US gal) and is called Prudence.
